Born and raised in the Washington, D.C., area, Andrew Harnik is a staff photojournalist with Getty Images. He began his career in newspapers and magazines in 2003 before joining The Associated Press in 2015, where he covered major political events and national news for nine years. In 2024, he joined Getty Images.
Andrew has received numerous honors throughout his career, including awards from Pictures of the Year International (POYi). In 2025, he was named the National Photojournalist of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism competition. He has also been recognized by the White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA) for 19 consecutive years, earning its Political Photograph of the Year award in 2012, 2017, and 2026.
In addition to serving on the board of the White House Correspondents’ Association, Andrew is Vice President of the White House News Photographers Association, where he helps support and advocate for the photojournalism community in Washington and beyond.
He lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and their two children.
